Multifunctional community building in Pregny-Chambésy
The proposal aims at generating a new centrality in Pregny-Chambésy, an affluent neighbourhood in the vicinity of Geneva. It appears as a gentle building with a horizontal profile. Its height adapts to the pedestrian scale on its edges while the higher volumes are recessed and less visible from outside. The transparency of the ground floor emphasises the civic and public character of the centre. The project encompasses a sequence of spaces in a gradual transition of uses (park, garden, canopy, lobby, foyer, events hall). This transition is manifested through subtle variations of height, natural light, materials and proportions. The most private functions have been confined inside a series of conglomerates that we call "rocks" which articulate in a fluid and versatile way the rest of the interstitial space.
