Poolhouse

Poolhouse is a single family house situated in Solrød outside of Copenhagen. The concept of the project was to locate all the functions around the pool. The pool is lifted from the ground in order to allow light filtrating into the various rooms and at the same time give privacy to the different zones of the house. The roof garden/sundeck on the lower part of the volume activates the roof and gives perfect sun conditions and access to the pool. In this particular area the authorities allow housing of 1,5 floors, or a maximum height of 4 meters. The concept was to lower the common rooms to -90 cm below garden level which allowed for a split level composition in the section. The client was eager to study the idea closer and to take the challenge when it came to the actual construction of the “aquarium” walls. The project was refused by the authorities because they considered the lower part of the roof garden as a second floor even though the height was only 3 meters. Also the client was not allowed to live 80 cm below garden level even though it is comparable with a traditional situation of a window placed 80 cm up on a wall. To the neighbors this project is actually less dominating in height than what is allowed in the area. Element Arkitekter AS is currently working on a new concept which is expected to be accepted by the community. It will be an eco-friendly project according to the danish rules.
