Elastic System

The aim of this project is to make Kirkenes capable of adapting to different scenarios, reformulating its urban life according to the unforeseen situations. Therefore, we should think of the unexpected, the new and the reversible as the only reliable premise in city developing processes in order to ensure that uncertainty no longer presents a threat. The whole city was taken into consideration, functioning as a performing platform, where an overall strategy has been developed to combine varied interventions. Programmes, scapes and structures become the subject of the motion boards. They are the main tool to weld time and space together in accordance to exchange patterns. A frame of possibilities is presented nevertheless the system leaves an imprint on the city when designing the shoreline as the Barents Gateway. The waterfront works as a catalyst between nature and city, Kirkenes and the Barents Region, supporting the possible variety of programmes and structures.
